ophia was born and raised in Orange County, CA. She moved to Missouri for college and has spent summers in Dallas, TX and New Orleans, LA for journalism internships.
​
Sophia is in her fourth year at the University of Missouri, where she is a journalism and sociology double major. She is also a criminal justice minor and studying for a certification in addiction science. ​​
During the school year, she reports for KBIA, mid-Missouri's NPR station, where she covers daily news and local incarcerated populations. She also writes for the Columbia Missourian, but her greatest passion is reporting on criminal justice and prison accountability.

This summer she is worked as an innovation fellow through the Reynolds Journalism Institute at WWNO, the NPR affiliate in New Orleans. She created data visualizations for the team and built a toolkit for reporters to easily incorporate data into future stories.

She has also contributed to research at MU's school of social work, exploring the connection between weight stigma and Black women's experiences with reproductive healthcare.
